Peppermint visit 2012

November 29:
Wyatt: "Do you fink Peppermint is going to come this year?"
Me: "I don't know. What do you think?"
Wyatt: "I fink yes."
Me: "Do you think he's going to make messes and cause trouble again?"
Wyatt: "I fink that Santa comes in and makes the messes."
Me: "What? Why do you think that?"
Wyatt: "Because Peppermint is a PET... a FAKE pet."

December 18:
Look who was sitting on Wyatt's bed when we went upstairs! Yep, he's back!
"Me: "Wyatt, you need to calm down and go to sleep. You have school tomorrow."Wyatt (wiggling like a crazy person): "But I'm so excited to see what Peppermint is going to do the the morning!"

December 19
Last night, Peppermint rearranged the dining room and kitchen for us...

Dec 20:

Me: "Oh my gosh. It's cold in your room. I wonder why it is so much colder in here that in the rest of the house."
Wyatt: "PEPPERMINT!!!!"

So last night, Wyatt decided that if he put Peppermint in my closet, we wouldn't have to worry about him making a mess in our house. This morning, Wyatt ran to the closet to see if Peppermint was behaving himself, and... that crazy dog had put Doug's and my shoes all over the closet!!!

Dec 21 - So last, night, Wyatt hid Peppermint in a dresser drawer in the guest bedroom. There's nothing for him to get into in there, right? WRONG! He snuck out and grabbed Wyatt's bin of balls, and had a field day with them. Then he took a nap in the bin. Crazy dog!

Dec 22 - Oh no. Guess locking Peppermint in my office closet didn't work. While we were downstairs, he got into the envelopes!!! Grrrr!!!!

Dec 22 - This morning, we woke up to find that Peppermint had removed all the games and puzzles from the cabinets! Not only that - he was playing a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos with Rudolph!

Dec 23 - Last night, Peppermint decided to try his hand at can bowling! He had it all set up for Wyatt.

He also took the rest of our cans and put them all around the kitchen island. That dog comes up with some crazy stunts. But then, Wyatt really did love can bowling.

Dec 23 - Wyatt is hosting his first sleepover. Cousin Aidan is staying the night.

Me, picking Aidan up: "Wow, Aidan, you sure are heavy!"
Aidan: "Well, yeah... I've been growing all day!"

What a crazy evening. First, Aidan and Wyatt took a bath together in our big tub, complete with bubble bath, bath foam, fizzy tablets, and a fishing pole.

Then jammies, and an evening bowl of Cream of Wheat for each of the boys. Then we called Santa, who reminded us to please leave a treat out for him. Then Aidan insisted he needed to exercise before bed, so we all did Zumba on the Wii Fit. Then we brushed teeth, and read our books. (Wyatt had to loudly read with me - to prove he knew them, I guess.) Then I tucked the boys in and began to sing.

"I don't like that song," said Aidan. "My Mommy and Daddy put a CD of baby music on for me."

So I sang Wyatt's songs, then I came in and put some lullabies on my MP3 player, made a playlist, hooked up the little speaker, and took in in there. Tucked the boys in, and hopefully they are sleeping. I guess I should go check before the lullabies end and they are awakened by my music. LOL

Dec 24 - This morning, Peppermint left a Stuffed Animal Hunt for Wyatt and Aidan. Stuffed animals were hidden all over the front area of the house and the boys had to find them and bring them back. Peppermint also decorated the house with streamers. He's a crazy dog!

Dec 25 - We left Peppermint guarding the milk and cookies, and Santa picked him up and took him back to the North Pole. Can't wait until he visits again next year!

Me: "Really? Well, you can just call me Mommy then."

Remember?

Last night, while I was lying with Wyatt as he fell asleep, I called him Puffalump and asked him if he remembers that I have called him that since he was a baby. He said no, and started crying. I asked him why he was crying, and he said "I want to remember."

Yowwipop

Today, the older kids at Wyatt's school were selling candy, so he asked if he could have some money to buy some. I gave him a dollar's worth of quarters, and he said "Can I have another dollar so I can have two fings?" So I gave him another dollar, and he went off to school with 8 quarters in his pocket.

The moment he ran off, I thought "Oh man, I should have told him that if he wanted to, he cou
ld share his money with someone who didn't bring any. Oh well... next time."

So when I got home, I asked him if he bought candy. He said yes, he bought a lollipop (yowwipop) for 50 cents.

I asked what he did with the rest of his money and he said...

"I gave it to McKenzie and Lucy because they didn't have any money."

My heart just melted. I guess he didn't need my reminder after all. ♥

It's the opposite of indifferent-i-ful

"Me: "I have to pick up a few things at Walmart."
Wyatt: "Shopping?! Ugh! Shopping is hate-i-ful!"
I laughed. "I think you just made up a new word."

Whyatt

"I made the mistake the other day of pointing out that Whyatt in SuperWhy spells his name with an H. Now every day, Wyatt's school work comes home with "Whyatt" on the top. Today I told him "Quit putting an H in your name!" and he said "But that's the right way to spell it." So I guess now he thinks I misspelled his name. LOL

I told him Whyatt's name was spelled that way because he wasn't real, but Wyatt is the way to spell it for real people. Hopefully that works."

The Gross Jellybean

"Was just at the mall with Doug, Olga, Wyatt, and my nephew Aidan. On the way out, the guy at Dillards gave us some Jelly Belly jellybeans. So we got in the car, and the boys kept trying the different flavors.

Wyatt says from his car seat "Ugh! This one is gross!"

So I say "Just swallow it really quick..."

So he does. Then... countdown... 3, 2, 1...

PROJECTILE VOMIT!

All over Doug's brand new car!

First report card

"Wyatt got his first report card today. He got all Satisfactory, except a Needs Improvement in holding his pencil, and a Developing in being able to write all his upper and lower case letters.

He's excelling in math - doing 1st grade math with a group of kids in his class who are too advanced for the Kindy math. And of course, he knows all his shapes/colors (and has for a few years).

He got an Excelling in PE. (LOL).

The note from his teacher is nice too. I don't have it in front of me but it talks about how Wyatt is always respectful, works hard, and is a joy to have in her class. She says in the 43 days he has been in Kindy, he has come really far. I am proud of him!"

Life after surgery

So on September 10, I had surgery. Not just ANY surgery, but a BIG surgery.

Total hysterectomy
Appendectomy
Lysis of adhesions
And - tummy tuck

I have been at home healing since. Dealing with hot flashes and sweating. Feeling cooped up and too reliant on hubby to do anything that requires outside-of-the-home driving. Dealing with complete and total exhaustion.

I have been going to bed around 10PM every night and waking up at 7AM, and STILL taking a nap on most days.

I am tired of being tired.

And I am full of swelling and fluid. My belly is tight and uncomfortable.

Still - this IS the first time in my adult life I have had a flat tummy.

So there's that.

Today was an interesting day. I decided to try a yoga program I had recorded on the DVR. I couldn't do all the poses. Basically, anything that required abdominal muscles was off-limits. But I stretched and twisted and breathed, and you know what?

I feel pretty good right now.

My tummy still hurts, but I feel like I am breathing more deeply, and I feel centered, and well, this is the best I have felt in the past 4 weeks anyway.

So I am looking forward to continuing to work out and get into shape.

Red face

"Me: "Wyatt, your face is all red! Did you get a sunburn?"
Wyatt: "No, I'm having a hot flash."

LOL - oh dear, I guess I am rubbing off on him. LOL"

Things I want my son to know

I found this list of "25 things I want my sons to know" and, well, while some of it is good advice, some of it is lacking. A cigar, really? Yes, nothing is wrong with having a cigar as long as it is ALONE or with other smokers and you are carrying some Febreze around with you. Nobody wants to smell that!

So anyway, as I go in for surgery today, I thought I'd take a few moments to share some things I want my son to know. So here goes...

1. I love you more than anything in the world, and I always will. I won't save this for last, because it's the biggest and most important thing I always want him to remember. No matter what happens in his life, my arms are always open and I will always give him comfort and love.

2. If you love and accept yourself, you find that you are also more accepting of others. Everyone is different and has been forged through different experiences in their lives. So there is no need to expect everyone to share your beliefs and values and outlook on life. Be you and allow others to be who they are, and you will let go of the burden of having to live up some arbitrary societal "rule" of how to be.

3. Stand up for those who are weak or unheard.

4. Always hold on to your integrity. Do the right thing, not because others expect it of you, but so you may walk through life with a light and guiltless heart.

5. Let go of that which you cannot control, and focus on yourself when you wish for change in your life. You can't control what other people do. You can only control your reactions to what they do. And sometimes, the best reaction is to let someone go, if they continually hurt you.

6. When you partner up with someone down the road, don't only pay attention to the butterflies and feelings you have. Pay attention to who they are; their character. Do they live their life with integrity? Are they respectful to others? Do they have harmonious relationships with most of the people in their lives? If not, don't expect it to be any different with you, no matter how wonderful they make you feel in the beginning.

7. Respect is the cornerstone of a long-term relationship. You should always respect another person's opinions, boundaries, and values. You should never try to change or control someone else - if someone isn't who you want them to be, either you aren't a good match for them, or you have some work you need to do yourself to make you ready for a relationship.

8. Laugh every day.

9. Always remember how fortunate you are, and live your life with gratitude.

10. Never be afraid to express yourself. If you are authentic, you will draw the right people to you, even as others who don't "get" you may run away. It is better to live a full rewarding life with fewer people than to live a lie behind a mask where everyone loves the fake you.

11. Never talk about people behind their back. If others are gossiping, do not get involved in the conversation.

12. Do not invite drama into your life. Everything is always ok in the end, and if it is not ok, then it's not the end. Take things one moment at a time, always do the best you can, and remember to breathe. But don't turn molehills into mountains and make a big deal out of things that aren't a big deal in the long run.

13. Smile at people. Not because it makes them wonder what you are up to, but because you realize every person has something to offer, and every person has some type of hidden pain. Be someone who brings light into the world.

14. Explore God. He's there, waiting for you to find Him, but I want you to find Him in your own way. Open yourself to possibility.

15. Sing and dance and build and write and draw and run. Fill yourself with all life has to offer.

16. Choose a profession that gives you enough money and time to travel.

17. Have babies. And be a good daddy.

18. Things are never never never as important as people.

19. There is always a way to get more money, but never a way to get back a lost experience.

20. Surround yourself with people who are positive and smart and good and funny. Yes, it is possible for someone to be ALL of these things. Don't settle for less.

I love you. Always and forever, my little puffalump. :)

Punkin

"When I picked Wyatt up from after-care, I asked him "You ready, punkin?"
Another little Kindy boy said "PUNKIN?!?!?!"
I laughed... "Yes, he's my punkin. Doesn't your mommy or daddy call you any cute names like 'sweetheart' or 'cutie'? Well, Wyatt is my punkin."
So a few days later I go in to get Wyatt, and say "Are you ready, punkin?"
And the same little boy says "PUNKIN!?!?!"
I said "Yep... he's still my punkin!"
So today, I walked in, and before I said anything, the boy looked at me and asked...
"Is he still your punkin?"
I laughed and said "Yep, he's still my punkin."

Just thought it was cute. :)

Alien robots

These are alien robots. The one with the colorful face is "the boss".

Wyatt's zebra.

On God

Take any negative feelings about Christianity out of it. Take the Bible out of it. Think of God as... the pulse of the universe. Not a HIM; not Jesus; not any relation to religions created by man. Strip everything created by man away from it.

Imagine yourself on top of a mountain. The temperature is perfect. You are alone, but can see around you for hundreds of miles. You can hear the bugs in the grass; can hear the whispering of the breeze through the pines. You can smell the grass and the pine trees and the hint of a campfire from somewhere down the road. You can see the reflection of the sun off cars on a road many many miles away from you. You can feel the vibration of the people in those cars; the vibration of the trees; the vibration of the sky, the earth, the road you came in on. In this one moment, you can feel your connection to all the people who stood here before; to all the animals peering at you from their hiding places; to all the people in all the houses and cars; to the sun and stars; to a person standing on a mountain on the opposite side of the planet thinking the same thing. You feel your place in the world - both simultaneously tiny and insignificant in the vast universe, and extremely important and with purpose in the world. Have you ever had a moment like that? Where you were just connected to everything? THAT'S GOD. God isn't what man has defined Him to be, and God isn't the evil people who have done harm in His name. God isn't pain and anger. God is beauty and love and light. God is that vibration, that connection. It's the force that created us and everything that is, whether you want to think of that force in scientific terms, as a benevolent man, or as something more existential and new age.
I do not think the only reason God created us is to have a personal relationship with Him. But I think a personal relationship with Him adds a dimension to our lives that opens us further, makes us feel more fully, and makes us MORE than we are closed off to Him.

I do not think we are a by-product of random events. I think there is meaning and purpose to everything that happens to us. But I also believe in free will (which I understand is a bit of a paradox). I think there are certain lessons each of us is here to learn. I think that the people we are connected to and the people whose lives we touch are for a reason.

I think that the universe contains MUCH more than simply us, and that we are not capable of understanding all that is. We are simply ants in a yard, making assumptions about everything outside our yard based on what we see. Ants cannot fathom Paris or New York or the ocean. And we cannot fathom all there is in the universe. Not when it comes to matter. Not when it comes to the "supernatural". And not when it comes to God.

Not believing in Him doesn't stop Him from existing. And writing books and making up a bunch of rules doesn't change His nature. He is Love. He is Light. He is in each of us whether we want to believe it or not.

Me: "Ohhhh.... and what are these?" (pointing to the little circles with lines coming out of them.)

I said "Awww, what's wrong, sweetie?" and started climbing the steps to him. He then pulled down his underwear and proceeded to PEE DOWN THE STAIRS! I screamed "AIII! Why would you do that?" and he didn't look at me or answer, just kept crying. I took him back to his bed and laid him down and he instantly went back to sleep. I think he was sleep walking!

We just returned home from a nighttime scorpion hunt. We took UV flashlights into the desert and searched for scorpions (they glow bright green under UV light). In the hour we were out, we found about 20 of them, including one HUGE one, and one with only one pincher, which Wyatt named Pinchy.

Every night, I read three books to Wyatt, then ask "Should I sing to you?" He says yes, so I sing "Baby Don't You Cry" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". It's been the same routine for several years. So last night, we read the books and I asked if I should sing to him. He nodded yes, and instead of starting "Baby Don't You Cry", I sang...
"At first I was afraid, I was petrified. Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side..."
And he CRACKED UP. Kept laughing and laughing. I finally calmed him down and sang the usual songs.
So tonight, we read books, and I asked if I should sing. He nodded. And I started singing "Baby Don't You Cry."
And he said "NO!" The other one!" So I sang "I Will Survive" before the usual two songs. I hope this doesn't become a new thing. LOL
Oh the other thing is when I sang "Baby Don't You Cry", he sang the whole song WITH me, which he has never done. I was fighting back tears, it was so adorable.

When shopping for a board game, Wyatt really thought it was funny that there is a game called "Fact or Crap". So - I am in a habit of saying "Fact!" when someone says something I agree with. Now every time I say it around Wyatt, he responds with "Crap!" And then we both laugh. I am sure strangers think something is wrong with us.

40 drops

Me: "There's a 40% chance of rain."
Wyatt: "Does that mean there are gonna be 40 drops?"

Me: "♪ ♫ You know I can't smile without you ♪ ♫
♪ ♫ I can't smile without you ♪ ♫
♪ ♫ I can't laugh and I can't sing -"
Wyatt: "STOP!"
Me: "What?"
Wyatt: "You said you can't sing, so stop!"

Me: "Hey Wyatt, when we go to Texas, Uncle Roger  is gonna take us fishing. He has a white boat."
Wyatt: "A white boat? Not even red? That's so boring!!!"

Wyatt: "I wish we had a buffet in our house." "Wyatt: "Hey Mommy, when I was in your belly.... what if you ate something I didn't yike?"
Me: "I don't think there was anything you didn't like."
Wyatt: (pondering, then scowling) "Did I yike burritos?"
LOL"

Rhymes with Orange

Me: "When you were in my belly, if you were quiet and I wanted to make sure you were ok, I'd just drink some Dr. Pepper, and you'd go like this!" (flailing arms and jumping up and down)
Wyatt: (giggle! giggle!) "Ohhhhh yeh, I remember that!"

Wyatt: "Hey Mommy. You say somefing, and I will say somefing that rhymes wif it."
Me: "Ok... Orange! Hahahahha.... nothing rhymes with orange!"
Wyatt: "Yuh-huh. Worange."
Me: "Hahah... but worange isn't a word."
Wyatt: "So? It rhymes."

Last night while I was trying to get Wyatt to sleep, he kept waking back up to talk about The Wizard of Oz, which they apparently watched at school.
"Mom, what's that girl's name again?" "Dorothy. Go to sleep."
"Are her shoes magic?" "Yes. Go to sleep."
"Hey Mommy... are her shoes shiny?" "Yes, they are ruby slippers. Go to sleep."
"That metal guy kept falling over." "Yes, he's the Tin Man. Go to sleep."
"Do witches have big noses?" "Yes, usually. Go to sleep."
